Eat This, Not That: Healthy Sweets Guide

Most people crave a sweet treat every once in a while, especially as the seasons change. Colder weather brings us to cozy moments inside and are normally filled with festive treats. This might not be a healthy option on a regular basis, but focusing on sweets with natural sweeteners, low sugar, and that are rich in nutrients. Here is a quick guide to help you find yummy treats without compromising your health.

Including fruits within your sweets allow for more nutrients to be integrated into your treat. Also, fruits provide natural sweeteners which lessens the intake of artificial sugar and sweeteners.

Dark Chocolate Dipped Strawberry

  • Melt ½ cup dark chocolate chips in microwave (30 sec intervals, stir until smooth).
  • Dip fresh strawberries halfway.
  • Chill on parchment paper for 15 minutes.

Peach Cobbler with Honey

  • Slice 2 ripe peaches and place in a baking dish.
  • Drizzle with 1 tbsp honey and sprinkle cinnamon.
  • Top with ¼ cup oats mixed with 1 tbsp melted butter.
  • Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes.

Berry Yogurt Parfait

  • Layer ½ cup Greek yogurt, ¼ cup mixed berries, and 2 tbsp granola.
  • Repeat layers.
  • Optional: drizzle with maple syrup or sprinkle chia seeds.

Banana “Ice-Cream”

  • Slice and freeze 2 ripe bananas.
  • Blend until creamy.
  • Optional: add 1 tbsp peanut butter or cocoa powder.

Banana Berry Smoothie

  • Blend 1 banana, ½ cup frozen berries, ½ cup Greek yogurt, and ½ cup milk (or almond milk).
  • Add cinnamon or vanilla for flavor.
  • Blend until smooth.

Chocolate Covered Raisins

  • Melt ½ cup dark chocolate chips.
  • Stir in ½ cup raisins until coated.
  • Spread on parchment and chill until firm.

Sweet Potato Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Mix ½ cup mashed sweet potato, 1 egg, 2 tbsp honey, ¼ cup oats, and ¼ cup chocolate chips.
  • Drop spoonfuls on baking sheet.
  • Bake at 350°F for 12–15 minutes.

Avocado Pound Cake with Raspberry Glaze

  • Mash 1 ripe avocado and mix with ½ cup flour, 1 egg, ¼ cup honey, and ½ tsp baking powder.
  • Bake at 350°F for 25–30 minutes.
  • Blend ¼ cup raspberries with 1 tsp honey for glaze.
