Healthy Living Tips for Autumn Wellness

As the seasons change and weather grows colder, it can be more difficult to feel our best. Hopefully, these autumn wellness tips will encourage you to find new ways to protect your health throughout season.

1. Staying Active

As the weather cools, it might be harder for you to get outside to stay active, but it is key for wellbeing. This can be achieved through low impact exercises using what you already have at home. For instance, chair yoga and stretching are good ways to keep your body moving, strengthened, and balanced. You could also take indoor walks around your house and do light chores around the house to ensure you are staying active. Plus, if the weather is not too cold one day, you could wear layers and take a short walk outside.

2. Nutrition

The autumn season brings many yummy treats, so this is a time to focus on what we are fueling our bodies with and maintain a balanced diet. Autumn provides delicious seasonal produce such as sweet potatoes, apples, beets, and dark leafy greens which support immunity and digestion health. You can also add spices like cinnamon, garlic, and turmeric to meals to enhance flavors, support heart health, and reduce inflammation. Lastly, remember to stay hydrated by drinking water, herbal teas, and eating water-rich fruits. It can be more difficult to ensure you are drinking enough water with the cold weather, but water is essential to helping your well being.

3. Mental and Emotional Wellness 

Seasonal sadness affects many individuals as the weather cools down, spending less time outside, people tend to sleep more but still have low energy levels, and it can be a very isolating time due to less activities and busy schedules, but there are ways to improve your mental and emotional well being. Take time to find hobbies you enjoy inside like journaling, reading, or knitting, all while watching your favorite seasonal movies. You could also invite your loved ones to enjoy your hobbies with you. Try planning calls, visits, or attending community events regularly so you always know when to expect them and have something to look forward to.
