Halloween Recipes and Activities for Seniors

Halloween is a time for fun! It isn’t just for kids anymore. There are many ways that seniors can enjoy this holiday from recipes to activities.

Let’s take a look at some ideas…

1. Sweet potato jack-o-lanterns:
Sweet potatoes and pumpkin mashed potatoes are just the right mix of healthy and tasty. Then, they can be served inside a jack-o-lanterns will make a fun, theme-appropriate snack that’s easy to make.

2. Dragon’s blood punch:
Made mostly from a mixture of juices, teas, and topped off with fresh fruit. This punch is simple to make in large quantities and should make for a tasty drink.

3. Devil Spider Eggs:
Make deviled eggs and use olive slices as spider legs. These are easy ingredients for your residents to put together and enjoy!

4. Cheesy Witch’s Brooms:
These witch’s brooms are made of cheese sticks and broken pretzels and will be easy to devour.

5. Halloween charades:
Brainstorm as many different Halloween-related themes and ideas as you can to act out. You should all have fun watching people mime Dracula or try to figure out how to act like a spider.

6. Homemade costume contest:
Encourage seniors to create homemade masks and costumes ideas. Purchasing items from the a craft store is the best way to design amusement! On Halloween, have everyone vote on which costume came out the best.

7. Assisted living trick-or-treat:
Most seniors probably feel silly trick-or-treating around the neighborhood, but most of us loved trick-or-treating when we were young and we’re a little sad when we got too old for it. So, set up trick-or-treating stations in the assisted living facility. Let any seniors that want to participate get dressed up and hit the sugar-free candy!

8. Classic horror movie marathon:
There are many classic horror movies that seniors’ favorite! Poll them, pick out a few of the most popular, and watch them all on Halloween day.
